Highwire assault

Along the final section of highway, and also along the area guarded by Wraiths and Choppers, there's a cable supported by pylons (not to be confused with pythons, which are much more bendy and rarely interested in cable support). You can get onto it using a grav lift at a suitable place, such as back in the Wraith area - I'll leave you to find a good spot. Once up, you can move along it all the way to the tunnel barrier, killing enemies as you go. You can get some great sniping if you take along a full sniper rifle and a well charged beam rifle, but a battle rifle and carbine are also good. Oh, and let's not forget the fuel rod gun! There were plenty of those lying about, so you can easily get a full one if you want it. Make sure you're loaded with grenades too of course.
Tip: To get up onto the cable, deploy the grav lift almost directly underneath - maybe about a metre to one side. Facing the direction of the cable, move into the updraft. You can control your drift slightly with the movement stick, allowing you to land with precision on the cable.
Shade tip
If you don't snipe the Shade gunner before he sees you, one way of taking care of it is to bounce a shot off it from quite a way back to make the gunner dismount, then shoot him while he's unprotected. More challenging, use a grenade when closer.
Back the other way
Incidentally, you can also move along the cable back the other way, but when you get sufficiently low near the end, you'll suddenly die for no good reason. Bah! Pesky Bungie spoilsports…
