BCM513 - First ground battle, 10-Marine Stacker chain-gun special

(7:27) Level 5 ('Assault on the Control Room') on Heroic. In my Pelican Marine blocking tutorial BCM511 I included a demo of setting up for driving a manned hog into the first ground battle, with 10 active Marines present. Here I'm using a similar set-up, except that I took the trouble to get Sergeant Stacker on the chain-gun (and he's my only passenger). Let's see how he enjoys himself!

Released September 24th 2024, gameplay recorded September 16th and 23rd 2024.

Commentary

00:02 (Play 1) In some of these battles I take a moment to present the Marines with a useable Ghost, to add to the attack. Here (0:38) it's rather a smoky one, but some bozo boards it anyway. Doesn't take long before he's ejected though, and I have to right it. A little later, the pilot gets a corkscrew ride when the Ghost collides with my hog. Hope he enjoyed that!

01:57 (Play 2 - Rocket launcher used) With the rocket launcher acquired, I head for the forward Elite and destroy his Ghost just as he's boarded. The other Ghost I then present to the Marines, and soon we're heading for the Wraith, which quickly falls victim to my rockets (and a plasma).

Just after, there's an incident which takes me by surprise. A Marine Ghost blows up right next to us. At the time I wasn't sure what happened, but looking at the footage I see the blue cloud of a mid-air plasma grenade blast, so I think the Ghost had been tagged.

My favourite part comes next (3:09). After splattering a pair of Jackals doing a dive together, I go on to swerve the hog so it side-splatters a Jackal against a rock. Very satisfying that was; and good for comedy.

03:27 (Play 3 - Retreat trigger) This time I start by triggering a covie retreat; or more precisely, they're now chasing after me. The forward Elite has boarded a Ghost, and it gets blasted as it cruises past the Wraith. But the tank isn't done with it yet. A short while later it delivers a long range shot which finishes it off. Nice!

05:18 (Play 4 - Sniper rifle used) The plays so far were all done on September 16th, but this one was a late change made to the movie, done on the 23rd after the movie's planned release had been put back due to the unexpected sequel tutorial I had to make. It's a definite upgrade on the play I originally had in this closing slot. Among the highlights there's a novel splattering of an arriving Elite (6:45), followed by a glorious double splattering of Jackals against the cliff wall (even better than the Jackal splattering in play 2).

Closing remarks Quite an agreeable splatterfest I must say. Those battles were somewhat on the easy side, and certainly it would've been nice to have some extra covies to augment the central area, but I wanted to just duplicate the simple set-up I showed in part of BCM511, except with Stacker on the gun. Maybe we'll give him some extra covies to shoot another time, or bump things up to Legendary.

Talking of Stacker, bear in mind that he was rather usefully invisible to the enemy, which is why the hog doesn't get targeted when I'm out of it.

I should mention that before completing the set-up I had to fix a speech anomaly. Stacker wasn't calling out lines like he should, and that was no good. But it's an issue I've had before in various situations, and I knew what to do. I got him out, then back on the gun, then waited with the motor running until he finally hollered a boarding line. At that point I knew he'd got his voice back, and I could finish off.
