BCM517 - Tree in a Warthog, pushing with a Scorpion

(6:56) Level 5 ('Assault on the Control Room') on Heroic. Using the same set-up as featured in BCM515, I now try pushing the hog into the tree using the waiting Scorpion (which is what it was there for). And in due course it results in a surprise!

Released October 7th 2024, gameplay recorded October 4th-5th 2024.

Commentary

00:02 (Some early tries) These first four clips come from three minutes of play. At the start you can get a sense of the Scorpion's power. When trying to push the hog into the tree, it's hard to avoid pushing it right through. After that happens twice though, I get something that looks interesting with the hog at an angle, but it comes free easily (in forward gear). Right afterwards however, I get something which looks more conventional, and it takes more work to get the hog free.

01:59 (Tree in the back) This other spell of play (from a day earlier) delivered a surprise. After almost two minutes' work I suddenly realise (around 2:13) that I've somehow got the tree into the back of the hog, something I'd never seen before. Embarking on some initial exploration, the hog seem firmly anchored, although permitting some awkward bit-by-bit rotation. I notice also that the hog has a bad case of the jiggles.

03:02 (Checkpointed) At this point I decided to get and save a delayed tunnel checkpoint, so I could try various things with the current hog situation.

03:18 (Further play) The next three minutes cover a play from that checkpoint, which lasted over eight minutes. A highlight is the 'bark fountain' produced when a frag increases the angle of the hog; and later I board the hog from underneath, which is not something you get the opportunity for very often! Around 5:33 I start trying to free the hog, and eventually succeed when the front left of the Scorpion seems to lever it away from the tree.

06:22 (Quicker freeing) Later on (again from that checkpoint) I experimented with freeing the hog using grenades and maybe a bit of melee, and found that I could potentially do it a lot quicker. Here's one of my speediest examples, obtained after first rotating the hog somewhat. Just a single grenade is used.

06:42 (More madness soon) This bit of closing footage is from another play from that checkpoint. It just gives an amusing view of myself and the Marine next to me.

Closing remarks Actually, the madness coming soon will be more Scorpion business. I've got something a bit special lined up, which I'm looking forward to showing. So let me say, do not miss it!
