BCM550 - Control room glass shattering fun

(6:56) Level 8 ('Two Betrayals') on Easy. This third instalment on the control room is all about shattering glass. Weird indestructible glass, that is. And suffice to say, there are great possibilities here! Essential watching, for anyone interested in a spot of interstellar vandalism. I'm again using the same set-up as before.

Released February 19th 2025, gameplay recorded February 10th-18th 2025.

Commentary

00:02 (Flying through panels) Here's some standard flying through the big glass panels for openers. I tried to get a good amount of shattering here (it helps to have the Banshee hull close to the panel), and I also twice get spectacular visuals by steeply climbing as the shattering occurs.

00:32 (Intro to shattering via flipping) Now a brief first demo of getting shattering by flipping the Banshee. Of course, you need a suitable configuration for that. This one is easy to obtain. Basically you just get one wing of the Banshee supported by the panel.

00:58 (Diagonal slice) The most spectacular configuration I found is a diagonal slice, like this. Fortunately you can dismount safely; notice how the game actually puts you on the path. In this 7-clip sequence I highlight the fabulous shattering you can get. Three of the clips - namely the 2nd, 3rd and 6th - are actually inserts taken from other plays; so what you've got here is somewhat of a medley, illustrating the potential. At the end, the Banshee has worked its way to the end of the panel and is partly out of it.

02:12 (Wing slice) This 'wing slice' doesn't give much glass in itself, but after I invert the Banshee with a plasma blast, things get quite entertaining! Eventually though, the Banshee works free and falls.

03:04 (Nose slice) This 4-clip sequence shows the sort of effects you can get with a 'nose slice'. The first clip is when I did a nose slice for the first time, and realised I was onto something, with the very interesting automatic shattering (plus shaking camera). The remaining clips are from two other plays. At the end I try to dismount onto the path, but it fails as expected.

03:56 (Mid slice) Some days after I made that nose slice discovery, I happened to obtain this deeper cut, which gave even more striking shattering and camera shake. I've edited things down from what was almost three minutes of play. Incidentally, the reason I slid the Banshee left after a while, was to try and dismount onto the gangway. As you can see however, that didn't come off.

05:10 (Final escapade) At the time I recorded this little episode, I had a version of the movie already close to being finished, or so I thought. But the action here had some novelty to it, notably the fact that the Banshee became embedded in the path, plus it had an amusing conclusion which I knew could make a good movie ending. So I decided to include it. I've made only two short cuts (towards the end), so you see almost all of it here.

Something to note: when the Banshee is under the path (which is opaque by the way), it casts an anomalous shadow on top!

Closing remarks With the multiple striking effects seen here, this glass shattering topic turned out to be much richer than I'd originally envisaged, so I had no trouble at all filling out a dedicated movie. In fact, I eventually largely called a halt to my exploratory gameplay as I already had more than enough to work with. There was also so much stuff to cover involving the large glass panels that I didn't have room to show anything with the short ones. They're a lot less interesting, but maybe they'll at least feature briefly in a later movie.
