BCM554 - Anti-spawn door trick

(5:04) Level 8 ('Two Betrayals') on Normal. Here's a tutorial for a curious trick I saw in an old tricks list. I expect to be making various uses of this, so I've given it a name and also detailed it in a new article.

Commentary

00:02 (The trick) After finishing off the final covies and Sentinels, I head onwards. At the outer door I fire a few shots so you can hear that there's a Jackal and an Elite already on the other side (actually this also allowed enough time to get through a few captions). Then I attempt the trick, including doing a few jumps after my press to avoid getting any checkpoint, because one is triggered if you fail. As it turns out, I do fail. But I succeed on my retry, and kill the Elite and Jackal.

01:22 (Looking around) There's a bit of a tour now, pointing out a few things. In particular, you can see that the place is deserted and there's no generator to destroy yet.

02:59 (Resuming normal play) After getting back to the panel, I press again and shelter behind the nearby stationary shield to get the checkpoint triggered.

03:19 (Some rocketing) Here's a short taste of some novelty play with the rocket launcher which I picked up during the tour. Just to spark your imagination.

03:59 (A bit of Banshee play) Likewise, here's a taste of some Banshee play, after first seeing some spawning (I flew over the trigger zone for the generator prompt, but then sank down to trigger it).

Closing remarks I deliberately kept those examples of fun short, as I wanted the movie to be mainly for the trick itself, including how to resume normal play. Applications are going to get proper attention later, and you can definitely expect some fun with the rocket launcher and Banshee. However, some uses with the control room business are on the agenda first. I'll be getting to work on that next!
