BCM590 - Cavern descent by Warthog, jump-bail transfer trick
(5:32) Level 5 ('Assault on the Control Room') on Heroic. Continuing with the Warthog work, instalment four sees me attempting some acrobatics to get out onto the hog as it slides down. Check out how it went!

Commentary
00:02 (Intro clips) These first two clips set up the story, the second clip being an introduction to the jump-bail.
00:35 (Wheel no-go) As it turned out, I still couldn't reach the wheel, as this example highlights. Couldn't get enough drift in that direction.
00:50 (Early promise) Consequently I switched my attention to going for the gun area, and here's where the movie begins a mostly chronological sequence of clips, covering how things unfolded. This early try showed me that there was promise in the idea, even if I did bounce off rather quickly.
01:04 (Bobbling a lot) This was my very next try, and this time I last a lot longer, before the dangerous bobbling sends me towards the ground.
01:35 (Clumsy jump) Here I try a jump to reach the wheel before I'm bobbled off, but it's clumsy and I overshoot.
01:53 (Stability discovery) Here's when I discovered that it was possible to be stable in the gun area. I'm initially bobbling around, but then things settle down and I find myself bouncing on the gun shield, apparently stable. Quite a surprise. In my earlier exploration of bouncing (see BCM588), I'd tried to avoid the gun area, as it always seemed to bobble me around, usually with fatal consequences. Anyway, I stay there and reach the ground with no trouble.
02:34 (Jump-bailing got better) I now started trying to land on the gun shield, hoping ideally to become immediately stable there. Notice my camera direction when I do the jump-bail. That's the general direction I came to favour. Immediately starting to drift once the jump is underway, I get a good view of the shield to try and target it appropriately. On this occasion I find stability close to the previous spot. Apparently I don't have to be right over the shield.
02:55 (Almost good) After getting stable in the gun area, I try a jump to reach the wheel and things seem good, but apparently I wasn't quite stable. Dang! Celebrated too early.
03:23 (Bad bounce) Occasionally when landing in the gun area, I got an unusual bounce which immediately sent me up towards the back of the hog. Here's an example (which is out of sequence). Bad bounce, bad outcome!
03:36 (Quite a pain) Another unsuccessful try for the wheel. This happened so much, and it was really annoying. It seemed that my success rate in getting higher was going to remain rather low.
03:58 (Stable on the back at last) Finally I did manage to get a stable high position, namely on the hog's back corner. But I didn't get to engage in any victory celebrations at the bottom. Got splattered, which I though was a bit mean of the hog after all our teamwork getting down. Anyway, this concludes my sequence reporting on how things went. Just a few extra clips now.
04:46 (Best to get clear) This clip (with gratuitous plasma grenade) is just to mention that it's probably best to get clear of the hog at the end of the slide, so you don't run a risk of being splattered. It would've been worth having such advice in my movie on bouncing, namely BCM588, but I don't recall being aware of the hazard then.
04:58 (Explosive finale) Here's a clip to provide a nice ending, involving a triple tag of the hog. Just something I tried, which came off quite nicely first time. But the clip also features a perfect landing on the gun shield, and I wanted to include at least one such example. It's something I managed occasionally, especially as my targeting of the shield improved.
Closing remarks This movie was entirely done using a handy special save I have, in which I'm already in a slide. That allowed me work on this transfer business with minimal effort. Didn't have to keep initiating a slide!
