BCM617 - Twin bridges megabattle, reverse trough defence blockade fun

(7:36) Level 5 ('Assault on the Control Room') on Normal. Here's yet another triple play of my set-up for reverse trough defence, but this time there's a particular theme, arising from my realisation that I could quickly form a blockade. Great to have fun with!

Released December 25th 2025, gameplay recorded December 20th-24th 2025.

Commentary

00:02 (Play 1 - Sniping from distance) Here's how I started off doing things. The Ghost is shunted to the left, and I settle the Banshee into the gap between the Ghosts, also making sure to nudge the other Ghost closer to the tree, else covies could come through. The Shade is used to plug the remaining gap. I then back off out of covie range to do some leisurely sniping. A few Elites survive the impressive boom, but are quickly rocketed.

02:28 (Play 2 - Close-up work) This time I get up close to the covies by sheltering behind and under the Banshee. There are usually gaps through which you can shoot, though you may have to probe a bit (my plasma rifle was useful there). Targeting legs or feet is one avenue of potential success, and I do some of that here. Excellent boom, sending the Banshee high (hits the piping overhead) and killing almost all the covies.

This is the slot I did the most playing for, as it's a bit random as to the shooting opportunities you get. Sometimes things are a bit awkward and the killing goes slowly. Here though, I do quite well, allowing a relatively swift conclusion, which I needed for keeping the movie duration down.

Two things I especially like about this play: (1) it features excellent views of the covies (sometimes they can be rather obscured), and (2) there's a great view of the plasmas building up, with a lot of them falling just in front of me. Also liked the bit where I sniped a Jackal in the rear, around 3:18. That was amusing.

04:45 (Play 3 - Sniping from a tunnel) This time the blockade follows a different design, in which the shunted Ghost blocks the tree gap, for which I previously used the Shade. An advantage of this is that there's no potential problem with picking up the sniper rifle (previously it could've ended up with a Ghost on top of it, an issue I had occasionally). As for the covie killing, I use sniping from a tunnel.

Pretty good boom, with the Banshee going spinning overhead. As for my subsequent work though, my second rocket goes annoyingly wide, doing no damage, and I end up facing a bit of a Grunt swarm.

Closing remarks Have to say, this new set-up has been giving me fantastic combat and fun, a good amount of which I've now shown with this recent burst of movies.
