BCM156 - Freakiness and fun, assorted clips

(5:31) Various levels and difficulties. My twelfth 'freakiness and fun' compilation shows 16 freaky or amusing incidents, most of which occurred while recording footage for my usual movies - so you may recognize some of the situations.

Released September 2nd 2015, gameplay recorded 2011-2015.

Commentary

00:02 (Balancing act) When I dodge clear of multiple swipes, a Hunter gets boosted up onto the hog's chain-gun. Quite a novel perch! I frag the hog and it kills him. It's a pity I didn't take the time to get a better view of things, but as you can understand, I was under a certain amount of pressure! May 2015 footage from when I was recording for BCM148. Level 4, Legendary.

00:22 (Long ejection) On the second ejection here the pilot gets propelled a long way, thanks to a push from the Wraith's front wing. I think that's the longest ejection I've seen. September 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM81. Level 5, Legendary.

00:42 (Ricochet kill) After sniping an Elite, I take a quick shot at a Grunt but miss. However, it ricochets off a Jackal shield and into the Grunt's back - so I got him after all! February 2015 footage from when I was recording for BCM131. Level 2, Heroic.

00:57 (Wrong door Stacker) It's time to head for the hangar but Stacker's got the wrong door entirely, not to mention the fact that it's closed. Battle fatigue perhaps? My second grenade makes him dive, snapping him out of it, and he delivers a protest line I can't remember hearing before: "We grew up together!" May 2015 footage from when I was going through part of the level, checking what the game called places. Level 3, Easy.

01:36 (Everybody jump) Towards the end of a spiral path megabattle I skim along the cliff top, making multiple covies dive off the edge - because I'm a bad cyborg like that. One of the Jackals doesn't quite go off and instead gets splattered. January 2015 footage. Level 5, Heroic.

01:46 (Haymaker) On my third swipe I appear to deliver an absolute haymaker of a punch, sending a Hunter flying. Actually though, I think he simultaneously got hit by one of his pals, just to my right. Still looks good though! For a related occurrence see 'Blue on blue' in my first compilation BCM56. June 2015 footage from when I was recording for BCM148. Level 4, Legendary.

01:59 (Curtain closes) In this Flood onslaught challenge I kill a pistol guy and he drops a couple of frags, which then go off when a carrier pops. I'm caught in the blast and get finished almost immediately after by a needle. Then the doors comically slide shut, as if to say "Show's over folks!" June 2014 footage from when I was recording for BCM107. Level 9, Legendary.

02:12 (Jolted out) My bridge descent initially goes according to plan, but then I get freakily jolted out onto the ledge. The Banshee very nearly finishes me off, but I destroy it with a tag and just manage to survive. September 2011 footage from when I was recording for BCM41. Level 5, Heroic.

02:41 (Gift from afar) While having some distant fun in a cavern megabattle, I throw a plasma grenade at a Jackal on the other side and it tags him amusingly on the ankle or thereabouts, causing him to launch soon after. April 2015 footage. Level 5, Normal.

02:56 (Magic appearing Elite) In this inner rise defence in a rockslide megabattle, I kill two Elites then turn around to throw a quick frag to keep the rear safe for a while. When I turn back there's a red Elite on a rock, seemingly appeared out of nowhere! Ok, not nowhere. I surmise that he came through the low gap then dived clear of the frag I'd thrown just before turning away (you can see that he got caught by the blast too, because his shield is flickering). But at the time I thought "Whoa! Where the heck did he come from? October 2014 footage. Level 2, Heroic.

03:17 (Bad Grunts) A raging Elite avoids running off the edge and starts swiping at me along the narrow ledge, but he hasn't bargained on the support of his grunty squad. Careless plasma pistol fire finishes him off, and the squad flees in panic. April 2015 footage from when I was recording for BCM138. Level 5, Heroic.

03:43 (Explosive end) At the bottom of the main facility I tag a Hunter and pile in some needles, and the result is agreeably explosive! June 2014 footage from when I was recording for BCM106. Level 4, Legendary.

03:52 (Double dizzy) As if circling these Wraiths isn't already making me dizzy enough, a close blast from one of them puts the Ghost into a roll too. Luckily it levels out and I'm able to continue the attack. Normally I would've lost my ride and been toast. August 2015 footage from when I was recording for BCM153. Level 5, Legendary.

04:02 (Spinny passenger) At the end of a twin bridges megabattle I hear the noise of an agitated plasma pistol, and track it down to the passenger seat of the hog. Must've landed there, and has got into an ongoing spin like the plasma pistol which was the subject of BCM112. I soon pick up a pistol and fire to see if it alters the spin, and it does. But my second and third shots don't alter the spinning and I know an AR would be handier, so I kill a Marine to get one. Just as I'm about to deliver a burst however, the weapon breaks free. Drat! Outside the freakiness of BCM112, this is the only other time I've seen a weapon in a prolonged spin. September 2014 footage from when I was recording for BCM113. Level 5, Heroic.

04:47 (Treetop stop) Right after I dismount from the hog to have some action with the two Banshees in the valley, I see that one of them is having trouble with a couple of treetops. I've seen Banshee fly into trees plenty of times, but never something quite like this. After a spot of plasma fire I score a nice tag to bring it down. The reason I didn't include this clip in BCM155 was that it was relatively sedate, whereas I wanted to keep the action hectic. August 2015 footage from when I was recording for BCM155. Level 2, Legendary.

05:02 (Covie camouflage) During a zero hit run, I turn a corner to find an Elite embedded in a slab. A new form of camouflage perhaps? Not really working. Actually I suspect he ended up there after diving clear of a grenade I think I probably threw from below. The slab interferes with his vision and it's a while before I'm spotted - at which point some cyborg mischief ensues. I'd had a checkpoint just a few seconds beforehand, so I replayed things a few times and this was the best play. My zero hit run was abandoned; getting some nice movie footage was more important. April 2015 footage. Level 5, Legendary.

Closing remarks I actually had a version of this movie put together before BCM155, but it was quite heavy on AOTCR footage in the closing stages. The making of BCM155 left me with a few novel clips, and I used one of them - 'Treetop stop' - to replace an AOTCR clip, making for better variation.

I almost made a mistake with the caption of the last clip. Originally I had it as 'Concrete camouflage' because the slab had put me in mind of something like concrete, the way it's shaped. At the eleventh hour however, I suddenly thought "Hold on a minute, that stuff is metal isn't it?" You can see what appear to be rivet lines in it. A quick bit of gameplay confirmed a metallic nature from the sound effects when you shoot it or walk on it, so I altered the caption to 'Covie camouflage' and did some hasty reprocessing.
