BCM509 - First ground battle, Ghost squad battling with extra covies

(7:30) Level 5 ('Assault on the Control Room') on Heroic. Here's yet more Ghost squad battling in the first ground battle, but this time with extra covies! Using methods developed in connection with mob battles, I added a gold Elite and two Hunters to the battlefield. Unlike in the case for mob battles though, the Hunters have not been weakened into rage mode, as I didn't need them to chase me. They did lose quite a bit of health when falling from the bridge though.

Released September 12th 2024, gameplay recorded September 8th-9th 2024.

Commentary

00:02 (Intro) Just a few amusing action clips to introduce the additions to the scene: gold Elite plus Hunters. And if you're wondering where the name Choppy came from, that's something I started using in BCM330.

In the second clip, the Shade goes flying from two Hunter shots. The first sails in from the one on the distant slope, then the follow-up comes in from the other. Nice teamwork there, although I don't think the Grunt appreciated it.

00:40 (Play 1 - Standard approach) After a fairly routine start, I get into a spot of trouble up-field with the Wraith. In trying to splatter a Hunter, I bounce off the Wraith and get ejected - and then I've got Choppy on my case! Luckily I'm packing a needler. After that, I throw another two plasmas at the Wraith, trying to add to the close-range pair already delivered. Not easy throws, but they both connect. At the time, I thought maybe the second was going to miss.

My Ghost squad gets wrecked near the end, in the depression at the back. I think the last Ghost blew from gunfire, and that set off a few loose plasmas which took out at least one covie.

02:53 (Play 2 - Gunplay added) There's some fun with the rocket launcher and sniper rifle here. One amusing bit: when I rocket the low Shade, it goes spinning and splatters a Jackal - as seen with my rifle's zoomed view.

Around 3:46 you can see the spare personal Ghost I added to the battlefield. That idea came to mind while working on the previous Ghost squad movies. The highlight of the movie comes right afterwards, when I splatter the gold Elite with it and get blasted into a somersault.

Unfortunately I'm killed when approaching the second Hunter around 4:47. Blasted head-on. Bit careless!

04:52 (Play 3 - Retreat trigger) When I trigger a covie retreat at the start, the Shade gunner dismounts but ends up on top of his Shade - only to get splattered by my Ghost as I head back. There's another nice splatter around 6:04 when Choppy gets it.

We lose a Ghost around 6:33 when a Marine cruises across the front of the Wraith and gets blasted at point-blank range. I hope the blast at least damaged the Wraith! But in any case I finish it soon after, and then there's just a bit of mopping up left.

Closing remarks Well, the new guys definitely made things tougher, and I captured some excellent action here. The Hunters are the more dangerous to me and my Ghost, but for Marines on foot I think it's Choppy they need to be more worried about. They can get sliced up rather fast once he's among them.

Doing the set-up work did take quite a bit of effort, but it was certainly worth it. The Hunters both took a significant health-hit when getting down though. The stronger one (namely on the slope) can only take 4 normal whacks, and the other only 3, whereas normally a pair of Hunters on Heroic can take 11 and 7 whacks, assuming a strong one and a weak one. In future I may try to get Hunters down with less damage, so I can have longer-lasting fun with them.
