BCM576 - Spiral path megabattle x3 with a pass blockade
(6:30) Level 5 ('Assault on the Control Room') on Heroic. Here are three plays of a spiral path megabattle save featuring 53 covies, most of whom start behind a pass blockade. It's the same excellent save used in five earlier movies: see BCM68, 69, 186, 221, 222. I battle three ways, starting with a path base defence then focusing on the upper area.

Commentary
00:02 (Play 1 - Path base defence) After releasing the blocked covies I settle the Banshee on the spiral path, thinking that it might lead to some amusement. Actually though, it doesn't feature all that much as it goes tumbling quite early on. Nice idea though I think.
Not long after that, we start to get overrun and I suddenly realise there's a cloaked Elite among us. I think he must've dropped down from the cliff top; there's an Elite grunt behind me around 1:03 which I assume signalled his landing. After a bit of panicking I manage to bring him down with the sniper rifle, then recover the situation with rockets and grenades.
After the rest of the battle up top, there's only one Marine survivor, namely the sniper.
Just to mention, around 2:20 I paused my rocket shot for a moment, so I could hopefully get both Jackals at once. Worked nicely, and they went flying to both sides.
02:47 (Play 2 - Path top defence / pass blockade rumble) Now here's a path top defence, which is also a pass blockade rumble because there's a pass blockade involved. I use a combination of needles, rockets and grenades to absolutely slaughter the oncoming mob. Highly enjoyable!
There's a bit of plasma rifle use near the end when tackling a loose Hunter; and actually he ends up going off the cliff edge with a plasma grenade stuck to him. He was already close to death, so that sealed his fate. In fact you can hear his death cry. Two Marines survive.
04:58 (Play 3 - Aggressive assault) That last battle was significantly faster than the path base defence, but now we get faster again with an aggressive assault using needles and rockets. A wipeout in about 80 seconds (allowing me to keep the movie under seven minutes). Four Marines survive. One went over the cliff edge from a Hunter whack.
I haven't previously used 'aggressive assault' as a battle plan name, but I thought it fitted what I was doing here. On my pass blockade rumble page there's a section titled 'Explosive mischief' where I mention the idea of advancing on the blocked covies and wreaking havoc on them. That's essentially what I did here but in a particularly aggressive way, making the term 'assault' more fitting than 'mischief'. Anyway, whatever you call it, it's a very enjoyable plan!
Closing remarks Previously with my spiral path megabattle movies, I've tending to focus on a particular battle plan for a given movie. This time I opted for a show of variety, and I think that turned out nicely. Another three plays coming up next!
